Happy belated twenty-sixth birthday to you. This past year has been a whirlwind with lots of different changes. You cried and you laughed, then cried again. It’s been easy and it’s been hard, but you did it and now you’re another year older. Remind yourself of the wonderful things in life and not try not to focus too much on the future. Yes you have goals but goals were made for the future. Time and hard work will pay off so be patient and enjoy everything you’re already experiencing.
Remember when you moved across the country with your boyfriend without giving a second thought. That’s brave lady. Not everybody has the confidence or capability to do such a thing. You moved to a new city for a job that you knew barely anything about but decided to try it anyways. With no family, no friends and no familiarities, you decided to make a change. Just you and Sean, moving into together and sharing everything with each other. You rely on him more than ever and it has only brought you closer.
You’re perspective over the past three months on life has changed. You see your career and yourself differently. There’s new motivation to put yourself out there and write a personal blog. Share your life, your stories and adventures. You improved your portfolio and now share your work more with confidence. You’re proud of your talents and are now seeing what others have been telling you all along.
You’ve discovered a new drive within yourself that you didn’t know was there. You are starting to understand what you want for your career and what you don’t want for your career. People seem different to you and also the same to you. There are people you’d like to surround yourself with and people you don’t want anything to do with. You know of those who are important and worth staying in touch with and those who are not.
You don’t have all your shit together yet but that’s okay. The important thing is that you have those goals and things in life you’d like to accomplish. Your career will change, bend and possibly change into something different. Keep working hard and always grow. Learn as much as you can and view everything as an opportunity. Don’t be shy, speak up and ask those questions you’re ignoring.
People may laugh at this and think you know nothing about hard work and that you have so much to experience and yes, they’re probably right. You have so much ahead of you and a long way to go hence the reason why I am writing this letter to you. To remind you that you are only twenty-six. Enjoy this year and take advantage of it. Say yes often, try new things and take a new risk every day. Extract as much as possible from life before it changes.
Olivia, I wanted to tell you one more thing. Happy belated twenty-sixth birthday girl, you rocked that twenty-five and you will rock twenty-six. Live young and stay inspired.
